The holidays are upon us! We know, it’s not even Thanksgiving yet. But some radio stations have been playing Christmas music since Halloween, so we’ll ease the pain by giving you a little preview of what’s musically in store for Memphians.
Dec. 6, head to Otherlands for Christmastravaganzafest 2013 with Chris Milam! Joining him on stage are Stephen Gordon and Rice Drewry. Tickets are $7, doors open at 7:30 p.m. and music begins at 8 p.m. This has become an annual tradition, so don’t miss your chance to see Santa Chris in person:
If you’re getting out a little earlier and bringing the whole fam, Visible Music College’s Rock’n’Roll Christmas also takes place Dec. 6. After two standing room only shows last year at the college’s Madison Ave. campus, the show has moved this year to the Cannon Center for the Performing Arts. The program will feature plenty of fanfare to match the occasion: special guests include the Neighborhood Christian Center’s children’s choir and Sarah Simmons, former Visible Music College student and finalist on NBC’s The Voice. As always, talented Visible students and faculty will also perform. Expect some Christmas classics, as well as some contemporary tunes. The show begins at 7:30 p.m. and while the event is free, donations are graciously accepted.
The party continues on Dec. 13, as Myla Smith presents a Christmas show of her own, also at Otherlands, with Jeremy Stanfill kicking things off at 8 p.m. Cover is $7, and you’ll get more than just a show — Myla is packing this night full of fun and surprises. Not only is she giving out a prize (lots of Myla merch!) for the best Christmas sweater, she’s also offering free downloads of her Christmas single “Red and Green All Over” and there will be a hot cocoa condiment bar! Order a delicious cup of hot chocolate from the crew over at Otherlands, and spice it up at the condiment bar with peppermint sticks, marshmallows and more.
The hits keep coming: on December 21, there’s the always-popular, raucous good time that is Lucero Family Christmas. This year the Dead Soldiers are opening up and the event takes place at Minglewood Hall. You can buy tickets here. They’re $20 in advance and $22 the day of the show, plus fees (including a $1 charity fee!). Memphis’ boys have been tirelessly touring this fall, so be sure to welcome them home on December 21.
We’ve come to expect a Snowglobe show every December 25 at the Hi-Tone, but they’ve thrown us a curve ball this year! Headlining Christmas night are local acts Heavy Eyes and Tanks. The show is $5 to attend and doors open at 9 p.m.
(And if you’re already thinking New Year’s Eve – Loveland Duren will rock you into 2014 at Huey’s on Poplar from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. that night!)
