Starting next week, we’ll have local musicians and people in the music industry writing some guest blogs for us! We’re excited for you to see what they came up with when we asked them to write about a specific Memphis music memory. Until then, busy yourself with checking up on some local talent!
Shot in Ardent Studios, this video from Star & Micey featured more than a few locals getting smacked across the face for the good of art. If you’ve ever wanted to see your favorite local musicians getting belted in the mouth, you’ll really enjoy this video. Read on for more fun:
Each year Lucero treat their fans to a “family picnic.” This annual event goes down this weekend in Little Rock, Arkansas. Just a quick drive down the interstate and you get to spend a weekend with Lucero and several thousand members of the family. Last year’s mini family picnic in their hometown of Memphis ended in a water gun fight!
One of the best bands around the Memphis area, Tiger High haven’t been playing as often as of late, but recall them fondly with this video for “Carry My Love.” Did you know that frontman Jake Vest hosts a show on WEVL 89.9 FM each Tuesday from 1 – 2 p.m. called “Memphis Beat?” It is made up entirely of Memphis bands and music, seamlessly going from soul to gospel to psych rock. Tune in every Tuesday!
Last, read this great blurb about John Paul Keith over at SPIN magazine. An exciting autumn is in store for JPK: not only does his solo album Memphis Circa 3AM come out in September, but he is also releasing his first album with Amy LaVere, a project called Motel Mirrors, on August 27.
