Kick your weekend off right with Faith Evans Ruch! She’s headlining at Otherlands tonight – doors open at 7:30 p.m. Cover is $7 and the line-up features the Zoo Girls, Cooper Taylor and Kris Acklen.
Also happening tonight is Chapstik, a new regular event focusing on female artists and entertainers. The line-up features Alicja Trout with her band The Cookie Crumbs along with Thelma and the Sleaze. There’s also visual art, including industrial-style welded lamps, hula hooping and something called manipulighting – for real – plus DJ EPK.
Tomorrow night, the Memphis Dawls take the stage at the Hi-Tone with Belle Adair. Tickets are $10, and doors open at 9 p.m. You can also hit the Poplar Lounge for Star and Micey with The Poodle Brandy 3.
But the big act rolling into town? MGMT at the Orpheum! There are still a few tickets available on the Ticketmaster site. Kuroma opens and doors are at 8 p.m. Tickets range from $34.40 to $44.40.
As always, Loveland Duren play their Sunday night show at Huey’s. This Sunday, they’ll be at the Collierville location, but pay attention! They switch up the location each week. The show goes from 8 p.m. – midnight.
BONUS: Motel Mirrors are included on the sampler that comes with the new Oxford American Magazine. It’s their Southern Music issue, and celebrates everyone and everything from Stax to Jim Dickinson – and it kicks off with Sid Selvidge. Don’t miss this one.
In between it all, hit up Memphis College of Art – this weekend is their annual holiday bazaar. One of our favorites!
