NEW DAISY THEATRE CELEBRATES 74 YEARS OF LIVE MUSIC + EVENTS ON HISTORIC BEALE STREET
(MEMPHIS, TN) – The New Daisy Theatre got an impressive facelift last year, but the historic venue doesn’t shy from sharing its age: the Beale Street music hall will celebrate 74 years on June 3, and you’re invited to celebrate with George Clinton & Parliament Funkadelic.
After taking over the historic location at 330 Beale 18 months ago, partners Steve Adelman and J.W. Gibson began an exhaustive renovation of the New Daisy, updating and upgrading every detail – from the custom state of the art sound and lighting systems to the beautifully retiled bathroom floors and every space in between.
“The New Daisy has such a rich history in Memphis and has been a one of the lasting cornerstones of the city’s live music scene,” Gibson says. “As more audiences have experienced the changes, we’ve really been able to bring some renewed life and energy to the east end of Beale Street.”
Throughout the next three weeks, the New Daisy will share archival content, show reviews, photos, trivia and more through its Facebook, Twitter and Instagram pages. The venue would also like to hear from patrons during this time with stories, photos and memories, and is issuing an open call to bands who’ve played the New Daisy stage to submit photos for an epic collage.
“With the full restoration of the New Daisy completed over the last year, the 74th anniversary is the perfect opportunity to tie together its historic past with its bright future,” Adelman says. “If you really want to celebrate, you can’t do better than George Clinton and Parliament Funkadelic. Being George is also 74 years old and still putting on incredible shows, he and the New Daisy truly have something unique in common.”
