Willie Mitchell’s Legendary Royal Studios celebrates its’ 60th Anniversary with the final series event, Sixty Soulful Years on Nov. 18 at the historic Orpheum Theatre in downtown Memphis, and today even more artists have been added to the jam-packed line-up.
This star-studded event will feature performances by some of music’s biggest names including Simo, Vanessa Amorosi, Al Kapone, Frayser Boy, URiAH, Vintage D, Kirk Whalum, Charlie Rich, Jr., Natalie Stovall (The Voice), Anthony Hamilton, Boz Scaggs, Robert Cray, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Dave Stewart of the Eurythmics, William Bell, Syl Johnson, Tony Joe White.
Not surprisingly, the house band for the evening will be the inimitable Hi Rhythm, the backbone of the Memphis sound. Serving as musical director for the evening will be someone who knows a thing or two about getting the best out of artists: drummer and producer Steve Jordan (Keith Richards, Robert Cray, Boz Scaggs, John Mayer). Additional artists slated to appear will be announced soon.
“This night is going to be a musical journey through Royal’s past, present and Royal’s future,” says GRAMMY-award-winning producer/co-owner of Royal Studios, Lawrence “Boo” Mitchell. “And with the amount of unbelievable talent we will have on one stage it’s also guaranteed to be just an unforgettable night of music. I can’t think of a better way for us to cap off this year of celebrations.”
Sixty Soulful Years is the final event of a three-part musical series in celebration of Royal Studios’ 60th anniversary. The series has focused on the past, present and future of Royal with unforgettable evenings and performances by some of music’s finest. In addition, this series has celebrated its partnership with the Memphis Music Initiative, an organization dedicated to investing in Memphis, its youth and communities through music engagement.
“We are committed to giving back to the city that has given us so much,” Mitchell says. “Our 60th anniversary has been a time to celebrate our history while also empowering the youth who are our future.”
