Do you see the holiday season as an opportunity to uniquely market your music? You should.
Whether it’s adding a new element to an otherwise regular hometown show (like Myla Smith’s Christmas sweater contest and hot cocoa bar at Otherlands on 12/13), creative branding (like Chris Milam’s annual Christmastravaganzafest), releasing new holiday music or bundling your merch for easy gift giving, there are a thousand ways to add some new shine to what you’re already doing that will make it even more enticing this time of year.
There was a good post on Hypebot this week about this topic, with some cool examples from indie favorites Matt & Kim, who pretty regularly kick ass in the direct-to-fan space as it is. Check it out for more ideas of what you could be doing to give your music an extra boost this year. And for 2014, here’s a free tip: talk to your local publications and blogs about their gift-giving guides. Suggest that they include local music releases (namely yours!) – but be sure to make the pitch with plenty of lead time, since many of these guides will be finalized well before Thanksgiving.
